Meet Your Dentists
Dr. Todd Christy
Dr. Christy completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University, where he studied microbiology. He then attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. During his high school and college years, Dr. Christy planned to go into the medical field. During his senior year, he reconnected with some family friends who encouraged him to pursue the dental field. The dental field would offer him the opportunity for hands-on health care and career opportunities that the medical field was moving away from.
When Dr. Christy was a small child, he spent many hours in the dental chair when he broke his two front permanent teeth while sliding down the ice at a friend’s house. The experience left him self-conscience and not wanting to smile for pictures. Each day at Berrien Dental, Dr. Christy wants to help people smile and share that with the world around them.
Dr. Christy’s entire dental career has been with Berrien Dental. He purchased the practice in September of 1996 after he graduated from dental school. The practice has grown over the years with the addition of new dentists, new team members, new technology, and new facilities.
As the current speaker of the Michigan Dental Association House of Delegates, Dr. Christy is very passionate about the mission they serve.
"I’ve been blessed to have an understanding family, so I have been able to serve on the state, local, and national councils for this association. This role allows me to channel my inner parliamentarian, mentor other dentists, and help my association improve dentistry in the state of Michigan and beyond."
Dr. Christy is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Lakeland Valley Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Christy also does extensive continuing education coursework on clinical dentistry, dental practice management, neuromuscular dentistry, laser dentistry, and myofunctional therapy.
Away from the office, Dr. Christy enjoys golfing, kayaking, tennis, basketball, snowshoeing, and ping-pong. He and his wife, Beth, stay busy with their two sons, Will and Drew, with their sports, boy scouts, orchestra, and robotics.
Dr. Christy keeps the team focused on their mission, but always with a smile and laughter. The mission of Berrien Dental is to provide the community with superlative knowledge-based care using advanced technology in a respectful and caring manner.
Dr. Eric Balsis, LVIF
Dr. Balsis attended Michigan State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in human biology and human physiology. He then attended the University of Detroit School of Dentistry. Dr. Balsis was interested in the medical field from a young age, particularly in helping people fix what ails them. Dentistry allows him to fulfill that desire while giving him plenty of time for his family life, which is also very important to him.
Dr. Balsis has been with our Berrien family since February of 2010. Prior to that time he was with the Van Buren/Cass District Health Department from June 2009 to April 2010. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, Lakeland Valley Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the International Association of Physiologic Aesthetics.
Dr. Balsis has completed the Core program at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (232 hours) and received his fellowship. In addition, he attends approximately 65 hours of continuing education per year.
Dr. Balsis and his wife, Jessica, have two children, son Dawson and daughter Brinley. In his time away from work, he enjoys playing golf and attending horse shows with his family.
Dr. Greg Bauman
Dr. Bauman attended the University of Michigan, where he studied biology and Spanish. He completed his dental studies at the University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Bauman’s passion to help others brought him to dentistry.
"Dentistry allows you to help people improve their lives on a daily basis."
Prior to joining the Berrien team, Dr. Bauman spent three years in public health with the Van Buren/Cass District Health Department and then four years in private practice. He is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Michigan Dental Association. To keep current on all things dentistry, Dr. Bauman attends the Las Vegas Institute and is also a member of the Spear Study Club.
Dr. Bauman and his wife, Andrea, have one son, Frank. When Dr. Bauman is away from the office, he enjoys playing and watching sports and riding mountain bikes.
